Is a client vulnerable?

At first glance, answering this question appears fairly straightforward. However, a common misconception is that vulnerable clients are simply experiencing the frailties that often occur with advanced ageing.

In this webinar, Martin Lines, Business Development Director, and Karl Steadman, Retirement and Later Life Specialist, discuss vulnerability and how to avoid its potential pitfalls. They highlight the main points from the FCA’s Guidance Consultation and share valuable pointers to help review existing approaches.

Martin and Karl also show how to access valuable online training materials, and discuss the benefits of working with other organisations.

By watching this recording, you'll understand:

  • The differences between permanent, transient and potential vulnerability, and how to spot it
  • The key points from the FCA guidance for firms on the fair treatment of vulnerable clients
  • Lessons learned so far in making vulnerability policies as effective as possible

The FCA’s recent ‘Dear CEO’ letter outlined their intentions for a second Assessing Suitability Review, focusing on retirement income advice.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the review to be pushed back to the autumn. But we still believe that understanding the FCA’s direction of travel, concerning retirement income processes to deliver good outcomes, remains an important and timely topic for advisory firms*.

In this webinar, Martin Lines from Just and Paul Boston of Novia are joined by financial services technical and regulatory expert, Rory Percival. Together they explore the FCA’s motives and objectives, as well as provide insight to help with reviews of internal advice processes.

The webinar covers:

  • FCA Assessing Suitability Review II
  • The FCA’s concerns regarding the retirement income market
  • Biases that can influence the give and take between flexibility and security
  • How to blend essential and discretionary income needs, via a platform

PS19/01: Going beyond the standard
+

Here we look at the latest policy statement on retirement income, which came into effect on 1 November 2019. From this date, the FCA is expecting all firms to be assessing a client’s eligibility for ‘enhanced’ annuity rates, and generating market-leading quotes.

For example, to ensure the accuracy of comparison quotes, advisers must take reasonable steps that go beyond a ‘yes or no’ answer to good health questions. Our new webinar will cover this and more. But what are the changes?

By watching this session, you'll learn:

  • What the rules are and how they affect you
  • What you need to do differently
  • What best practice looks like
  • What you'll receive from providers that helps validate your advice
